Williams Takes Back-and-Forth Battle With Hornets

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (1/15/26) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team took down Harris-Stowe on the road by the final score of 84-76 on Thursday night inside Emerson Performance Center.

Cha'Myrean Ellis led the team with a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds.  Joi Montgomery followed with 18 points, and Sara Crowe piled on 16 in just 21 minutes.

The Eagles went 28-of-69 (40.6 percent) from the field and lost the rebound battle 42-41.  WBU scored 26 of its points at the charity stripe in the win, and forced 24 Hornet turnovers to score 31 points.  The contest featured 11 ties and seven lead changes.

After Sara Crowe hit the first bucket of the game, the two teams traded the lead back-and-forth through the first quarter.  A layup from Ellis capped off an 11-0 Williams run to put the Eagles ahead 22-14 with 2:46 to go in the period.

Williams kept its lead through the second quarter, but a late jumper from Harris-Stowe capped off an 8-2 run to bring the Hornets within two at halftime with a score of 38-36.

WBU maintained the advantage through most of the third quarter until a jumper from Cailynn Dilosa tied the game with 2:36 on the clock.  The two squads traded buckets as HSSU tied the game three separate times in the third to send the game into the final quarter tied at 59-59.

Harris-Stowe opened the fourth quarter with a bucket from J'Lessa Jordan to take its first lead since the first quarter, but a layup from Cha'Myrean Ellis tied the game and two free throws from Chelsea Hamilton gave WBU the lead back with 8:04 to play.  Harris-Stowe's Alivia Montgomery responded with a triple to put HSSU back on top 64-63.

A 6-0 swing from Harris-Stowe put the Hornets in the lead 70-69 with five minutes to play, but Taylor Hooten drained a three to put Williams back in front for good.  The triple sparked a 9-0 run that HSSU could not come back from as Williams took the win 84-76.

The Eagles' sixth straight win moves the squad to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in American Midwest Conference Play.  The Eagles return to the floor on the road against Mission on Saturday, Jan. 17.  Tipoff against the Patriots is set for 1 p.m. from Springfield, Mo.
