WBU Soars Past Harris-Stowe in AMC Tournament Quarterfinals
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/26/26) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team led wire to wire in a 76-42 win over Harris-Stowe in the American Midwest Conference Tournament quarterfinals inside W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse on Thursday night.
AMC Player of the Year Cha'Myrean Ellis led the scoring charge in the rout with 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field. Joi Montgomery followed up with a double-double on 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Montgomery also led the team in assists with five. Sara Crowe also finished in double figures with 11 points on the night.
As a unit, WBU went 28-of-66 (42.4 percent) from the field while holding the Hornets to just a 24.1 percent clip on the game. HSSU controlled the rebound battle 46-42, but Williams forced 37 Hornet turnovers to cash in for 30 points.
The Lady Eagles set the tone immediately, jumping in front 19-5 after the first quarter and matching it with another 19-2 second period to take a commanding 38-7 lead into halftime.
Williams held the Hornets to just three field goals in the first half at a 10.0 percent shooting percentage. Ellis scored 13 of WBU's 19 points in the first quarter to take control of the game.
Harris-Stowe fought back in the second half, and outscored the Eagles in the fourth quarter 22-16, but was unable to overcome the deficit as WBU took the 34-point win.
The win moves Williams to 23-4 overall on the season. Next, the second-seeded Lady Eagles will face the winner of No. 3 Stephens and No. 6 Central Baptist in the semifinal round on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m. from the W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse in Springfield, Mo.
