WBU Downs Missouri Baptist on Opening Night, 89-62

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (10/28/25) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team opened up the 2025-26 season with an 89-62 victory over Missouri Baptist inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Tuesday night.

Taylyn Davis led the offensive charge for WBU in the opener, scoring 24 points on 8-for-10 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three.  Davis buried three treys in the win.  Chelsea Hamilton followed with 15, and Taylor Hooten finished in double figures with 11.  

Joi Montgomery led the squad on the boards with nine rebounds, and Cortayza Flowers followed with seven off the bench.  Sara Crowe paced the team with four assists and four blocks.

As a team, WBU went 32-for-76 (42.1 percent) from the field and 12-for-28 (42.9 percent) from three-point land.  The Lady Eagles were outrebounded by MBU 48-44, but turned 29 Spartan turnovers into 35 points.

Williams started the game on a 19-2 run that saw the Lady Eagles drain their first four three-point attempts.  WBU outscored MBU 23-9 in the first quarter.  The Lady Eagles extended the lead to 48-29 at the halftime buzzer after ending the second quarter on an 8-4 run.

WBU kept its foot on the gas in the third, kicking off the second half with a 15-4 run to extend the lead to 30.  Williams continued to ride the momentum through the final period of the game to take its first win of the season.

WBU will return to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 1 when the Lady Eagles play host to Ozarks (Ark.) for Homecoming.  Tip-off against the Eagles is set for 1 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
